Python for Kids: A Playful Introduction to Programming Paperback – December 22, 2012

Python for Kids
I have the attention span of a goldfish. This book was easy to follow and many of the samples programs are fun. I am almost done with the book which is a clear sign of success. Its a good way to cover the basics.

Python for Kids
My 9 year old son LOVES electronics and is trying to learn how to program. He really enjoyed this book. The games were good and he learned some great basic programing ideas. He's now trying to take the games he learned and change them a little using what he learned from the book. He finished the book in about a month. It's a great book for a younger programer starting out.

5 Best Multiplayer Apps For the IPhone, IPod Touch and IPad

Multiplayer games on the iPhone were the hot new thing a year ago. Now, the quickly maturing field offers a host of choices. We've picked some of the best for you -- but first, some housekeeping:

To play over local WiFi, all players have to connect over the same hub. Global WiFi and 3G games let you compete from anywhere, but are sometimes geared to a universal pool of players; playing your buddy might be impossible if the game automatically matches you to opponents.

That said... let the games begin!

N.O.V.A. (Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance,) Gameloft; .99. Gameloft has been a powerhouse of iPhone gaming since day one. Gameloft's specialty is delivering the kind of experience you expect from one of those grandpa game machines hooked up to a television, but in iPhone size. (The company's "Brothers In Arms" franchise, a knockoff of "Call of Duty," is legendary). NOVA is a HALO-like first-person shooter set in a sci-fi world, and up to four can play in a game. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is crisp, and you have good leeway to explore in every screen, adding to the realism.

Galcon, Galcon.com; .99. There are those who say that Gameloft gets by on perfect implementation of someone else's idea. The secret of Galcon's addictive power, by contrast, is its originality. The graphics are flat and geometrical, but they're not meant to be realistic. The action is in the strategy, but here's the kicker: there are no turns. You do all your galactic domination in real time. It's simple, it's addictive, and it's at the best at what it does. Add in human opponents and your iPod touch or iPhone become an arcade you can't leave.

Alive 4-ever, Meridian; .99. Prefer your shoot-'em-ups with a top-down point of view and waves and waves of living dead? Alive 4-ever is for you. You and up to three other survivors battle it out in a zombie-infested wasteland, where if you know what's good for you, you even shoot the dogs. You'll play Alive 4-ever until you realize you've become one of them, and go looking for fresh brains to eat. Bonus: with multiplayer gameplay, now you've got a lunch date. Bluetooth and local wifi (you and your buddies,) no global wifi.

MyBrute, Bulkypix, .99. MyBrute strips away everything except the fighting, then doesn't let you control the fighter. If that turns you off, skip to the next "best." If it doesn't, you're an RPG fan. RPGs are about building, training, equipping, and perfecting your character, then pitting him against others and letting nature take its course. MyBrute does that brilliantly, with equipment and skills out the wazoo and dojos competing for the privilege of training your cute little gladiator. Caution: extremely addictive for the RPG fan, and provides insidious option to buy new features. Fighters also kill each others' pets, but it's cartoony, so you won't mind.

F.A.S.T. (Fleet Air Superiority Training), SGN; Free. Online, real-time, 3-D Dogfights sound sweet? Then you want F.A.S.T. Go to where the DefCon's highest, and engage the enemy over wifi internet, either in private combat against friends, or against random internet victims. Fight head-up or in 2-on-2 dogfights. Ten planes, 30 missions, unlimited opponents.

Making and Recording Music on iPad: Cool Apps

There are a lot of great applications designed for iPad music fans. If you enjoy making music, composing it, recording and mixing, you might like to discover the following music apps for your iOS device.

I play in a rock band, and I am used to live instruments: guitars, keyboards, bass, and drums. With the launch of the iPad we decided to record a song using its applications.

Even though there are tons of music apps for iPad, not each application is great and useful for playing music. I found such apps as iCanBass, iGuitar Free, Guitar and the free version of WI Guitar Free pretty useless.

GarageBand, WI Guitar (full), easyGuitar HD and Piano HD Free (Pianolo) are the iPad music apps worth your time and money. They can really help you record your compositions.

GarageBand: All in One

GarageBand is a great paid application. It includes smart guitar, smart bass, virtual drums, voice and keyboard, and it lets you record an entire song on the iPad.

You can record each instrument one by one after choosing "New Song" in the up left corner of this music app. You can record drums to form your song's structure, and then add guitars, bass and keyboard.

You can delete or replace any instrument whenever you want to.

GarageBand iPad app allows you adjusting volume levels. Besides, each musical instrument has unique settings and autoplay rhythms. Drums and smart drums have 3 traditional kits and 3 drum machines. You can choose your song's tempo and major (new songs are recorded in C major by default).

This app is still not perfect. First of all, you are limited to 8 tracks only. Secondly, each instrument is touch-sensitive. This means you will sound louder if you tap hard. It is impossible to play with the same snare. You can do much better if you record your song using the smart instruments only.

You can add your vocals to the song using built-in mic or USB microphone, and mix your music by adjusting volume levels of each track and panning.

If you are not satisfied with your results, you can always finish mixing your song in your Mac's GarageBand app. There is one problem here. You are not able to import your song back to your iPad's GarageBand once you mixed it on your Mac.

WI Guitar and easyGuitar HD

If you want to record lead and solo guitars, you can use WI Guitar app for .99 and free easyGuitar HD app for iPad.

WI Guitar is a virtual acoustic guitar iPad application that includes a classical instrument and electric guitars. It allows you strumming chords. But it includes only 12 chords plus maj7, add9 and sus4. Even though you can make about 150 unique chords, this app is best for playing and recording easy songs only.

If you wish to add solo to your basic guitar line, use easyGuitar HD app for iPad. Designed and sold by Paolo Bottigliero, this application includes 2 classic guitars. You can play on the first 6 frets or the last 6 frets when making solo. Use your fingers on one hand to push the string you need to be played and the other hand to play these strings as if you are playing real guitar.

Piano HD Free

This version of piano is pretty good. It is free first of all unlike GarageBand which costs you .99.

You can imitate 6 instruments on keyboard, including violin, guitars, saxophone, horn and grand piano with 6 octaves. It is a cool way to record a song if you are tired of the GarageBand sounds.

This free music app includes 3 modes: multiplayer piano, multiplayer piano with saxophone and 4-ocvates grand piano. You can play a duet with your friends and compose beautiful music.

Still there is one drawback that I should mention. Our fingers are a bit too big for this application; it is often difficult to tap the right keys.

Whenever we have options or a choice, there are always lots of things to consider. In this case, we have a choice between an iPad from apple or an aPad iRobot. Both tablet PC, both allowing us to surf the web and get online to watch our videos, both allowing our content to come with us wherever we are.

In many ways the aPad iRobot and the Apple iPad are the same. Slightly smaller screen size aside between the 7" aPad screen and the 9.7" both of the essentially let us do the exact same things, using a different operating system to accomplish the same tasks. The question always boils down to which one should I buy. And there are arguments for both sides. While I could spend days going over and giving the good and bad for each of the arguments I've researched, I won't. Instead I will compare and list the features that are present in both the aPad iRobot as well as the iPad.

IPad App

Buy the aPad iRobot Or the iPad - The Choice Really Comes Down to Just the Price

Web Browsing:

Buy the aPad iRobot Or the iPad - The Choice Really Comes Down to Just the Price

No URL

Both of these can do it. The safari browser for iPad and Google's own web browser built into Android OS. If you're looking to do some reading of blogs, or checking the news, and responding to and working with your email. Both the aPad iRobot and the iPad will do the trick without any hassles.

Expandability:

This is where the iPad from Apple fails. Once you're iPad is full of content, you're done. You'll have to erase and selective pick what you want on there. The aPad uses regular microSD Cards, so you can just put in a new card and double your memory.

Games And Applications:

The iPad takes the cake in this regard, with hundreds of thousands of games and apps. But the aPad iRobot also has a huge selection of games and applications from the Android Marketplace. Essentially any Android App will work on the aPad, and the selection is nothing to laugh at. But you REALLY have to be into gaming in order to use this as your deal breaker. The biggest games are out for both systems, and as such, unless there is some very specific game you need to play, you're good with either the aPad iRobot or the iPad

Email:

Lets face it. Google is the king of email. So you're not going to be wanting for anything when it comes to doing your email on the aPad at all. It's responsive, has a built in email App for Gmail and naturally, you can set it up to use any email account you have. Much the the iPad. Even the aPad offers Gmail as one of the standard accounts in their mail app. The on screen keyboard is very responsive and I prefer the size of the aPad to be honest as it makes typing out my emails a whole lot easier while holding it in landscape mode.

Videos & Music:

The aPad iRobot has one click YouTube access. Click on the YouTube Icon and you're presented with YouTube and watching all of the videos you can handle. The world favorite time waster is fully functional and works great on the aPad. The Apple iPad also has a YouTube app. Built in and available out of the box. Both the aPad and the iPad can view HD Videos as well. MP3 is supported on both of the units too. With the aPad running Android OS media player, and the iPad running iTunes. Sound quality and volume is the same across the board.

eBooks:

Again, both units allow reading of eBooks. Apple's iBooks is definitely a fantastic application making the organization and purchasing of your eBooks a breeze. The aPad doesn't have the same App, but has a built in eBook reader available to download from the Android Marketplace. I prefer the screen on the iPad - as it's slightly bigger, but I prefer the price of the aPad - because it does the same thing.

The biggest argument FOR the aPad iRobot is the price. While you'll have to spend at least 0.00 to get your taste of tablet computer with an Apple iPad. You can get a feel for what it means to really use a tablet with the iRobot for less than half the price, with the entry model starting at only 9.00 I suggest spending less not because one of these products is better than the other, but because tablet computers in general are such a new product category that we really have to be sure we're able to use it, and that its functional for our own use. It's not like upgrading or getting a new desktop PC. We're accustomed to that form factor and how we use our desktop PC's.

My recommendation? Buy the aPad iRobot. If you like what you get out of a tablet PC, and still want to go for an Apple iPad, you can sell the aPad and get the iPad if that product will suit you better. But you'll have a chance to at least try out tablet computing and see if it works for your own lifestyle.
